Why Cleansing, Yoga, and Bodywork Belong Together A Brief Introduction to The Four Keys To Transformation
by Julian Walker
Central to the Core Sequencing work that Ellen Heed and I have been developing over the last 7 years is the understanding that energetic health is a holistic, multi-leveled endeavor. The Rule of Four is an idea we got from one of our teachers, Dr. Vincent Medici. In Core Sequencing, we “sequence” the modalities of yoga, hands-on bodywork, and organ cleansing to help facilitate “core” transformation.
Below this brief introduction are three basic cleansing phases that I have put together. I am also available for one-on-one cleanse coaching and have a Solo System far-infrared sauna that I use as an adjunct to the cleaning process.
You can email me with any questions or to schedule sauna time in conjunction with your bodywork appointment. I also have a list of bodyworkers and yoga teachers that we have trained who are available for private yoga and/or bodywork.
1) Blood Chemistry
The body is “one nation under blood”. Every cell in every tissue is bathed in, nourished by, and detoxified by your blood stream. The quality of your blood chemistry determines your experience of being alive in your body. The quality of your blood is a function of your nutrition and elimination. The health and effectiveness of the organs of elimination is compromised over time as they are forced to deal with a toxic load from prescription and recreational drugs, toxins in the food, water, air, cosmetics, cleaning products etc…
The higher the toxic load in the blood the more acidic, irritated, stiff, and prone to infection and injury the body becomes. Toxic blood chemistry also effectively blocks the true healing gifts of energetic disciplines like yoga and bodywork from being received by the body. Toxicity blocks energy flow.
As the organs of elimination are supported in releasing their toxic load and functioning effectively again, the entire body responds and can receive bodywork and yoga in a way that becomes transformational.
Cleansing the colon, liver, kidneys and gall bladder while feeding the
body good nutrients is the key to positively affecting blood chemistry
imbalances.
Far infra-red sauna technology is also a cutting edge detox method. 30 minute sessions are available in my private practice.
2) Scar Tissue
Scar tissue is the result of past injuries and surgeries. Think of the body as being one large webbing of interwoven connective tissue that glides over itself. Scar tissue creates a clump of immovable deadness in this webbing. This affects structure as well as energy flow. Scar tissue in one area can create problems in other distant areas of the body.
Getting hot in yoga and stretching deeply into areas of scar tissue helps to gradually break it down. Bodywork techniques that break up scar tissue are also very effective.
3) Biomechanics
“Biomechanics” refers to the relationships of bone to bone, muscle to
bone, muscle and bone to nerves, and the entire physical structure to
gravity.
Biomechanical imbalances occur when chronic muscular contractions distort these relationships and cause pain or limit motion.
In the Yoga and the Chakras workshops we have talked about sciatica, low back pain, thoracic outlet syndrome, and TMJD, all of which are pain syndromes caused by biomechanical imbalances.
Yoga is one of the most sophisticated and effective systems for addressing biomechanics ever created. Bodywork is also very effective, and the synergy of yoga and bodywork can be profoundly healing, especially once the blood is sufficiently cleansed.
4) Emotions
Biomechanical imbalances often have an emotional component. In the workshops
so far, we have been talking about the “high charge points”. These are
muscles that hold unexpressed emotional energy, causing a chronic habitual
contraction that distorts the biomechanical
relationships and can create pain.
Core Sequencing yoga and bodywork understands and makes space for the energetic process of releasing emotions that are held in the body. This emotional healing process is an integral part of bringing the whole system into greater aliveness, openness and spiritual awareness. The emotional piece is often the key to releasing the tension that is creating biomechanical imbalance and pain.
My Healing Breath workshops are another powerful way to explore the bodymind connection, move blocked energy and heal deeply held emotions.
I also have a list of trained practitioners for bodywork and private yoga referrals.
5) Initiation
As these four key elements are combined in sequence, they synergize into something we call “energetic initiation”. All spiritual and psychological healing practices are, at their core, systems that initiate us into a new relationship to ourselves, each other, and the world. As the organ function improves, the blood is cleansed, scar tissue is broken down, emotions are healed and released, biomechanical imbalances and pain syndromes can be healed and energetic initiation occurs.
The moment of initiation allows the deep intelligence of the body-mind to re-assert itself and brings body, mind, heart and soul into direct honest communication. Often there are tears, laughter, shaking, heat and tingling. Sometimes waves of visible energy pass through the spine, radiating out through the nervous system as the body “unwinds” old tension habits and re-balances itself. A renewed sense of purpose, creativity, empowerment and compassion fills up the spaces where before we were holding fear, grief, anger and conflict about fully being ourselves.
As we peel through the layers that these four keys to transformation make available, we will have many initiations and many moments of insight, healing and growth.
